"Time is the only reality" is excellent. You are on to the right path with your other comments, and I applaud your amazing comprehension of my inadequate writing and editing skills.
Proust sees society as fluid, allowing outsiders to rise, as in the case of Morel and Mme Verdurin, and allows aristocrats to become insignificant, such as the Baron de Charlus and the Duc de Guermantes. This is all under the umbrella of time, memory and change culminating in the last volume.
